The transcontinental overland journey for the ark and its passengers ended on the Tacoma waterfront in late summer 1938. Over the next year, Paul, Mollie and their seven children transformed the welded frame of a 40 foot long, Buick powered road vehicle into an ocean going vessel. Living in a waterfront shack on the edge of Tacoma’s sprawling and notorious Hollywood on the Tideflats, the Satkos planned the next, maritime chapter in their journey story.
