No long complicated backstory here. Just a small street portrait of three boys on the curb in front of Burnett Brothers Jewelers at 934 Broadway in December 1920. The photograph was taken in conjunction with the American Red Cross christmas campaign and the contrast of these torn and patched little fellows in front of Tacoma’s most lavish gem dealer didn’t need any caption or written appeal. Almost a century later the unnamed newsboys still have a message to deliver.

The disheveled appearance of these boys only adds to the charming moment in history.
